Since the Cold War from 1949 coupled with the Korean War in 1950 and the Vietnam War since 1964 so as the Sino-Soviet Damansky Island Incident in 1969,the international constellation has undergone a major change. Communist China joined the United Nations in 1971, and established diplomatic relations with the US in 1979, all these events have a significant impact on the cross-strait relations.
After the Tiananmen Square Incident in 1989, many countries condemned Beijing. This incident can be seen as a turning point of their policy toward China, but soon returned to normal. At present the most important external factor is the on-going global financial crisis. Because China suffered less and due to its successful economic policy, which makes access to the mainland to play a more important role to help bail out other countries. This policy has gained lots of international admiration.
